May 25, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks and Pepsi, one of the nation’s foremost beverage and snack food companies, are proud to announce a partnership in the Rockford metro area to benefit youth sports and recreation.

Pepsi is a national sponsor of the Pitch, Hit and Run competition for boys and girls ages 7-14 who wish to prove their skills in baseball techniques. Local competitions are to be held throughout the United States at the fields of local sponsors. Competition is by age group, in each of the pitching, hitting, and running challenges, as well as an overall winner. The winners of each local competition qualify for a sectional competition based on geographic location. Winners of a sectional are eligible to move on to a competition at one of the 30 major-league ballparks. The winners at each major-league park qualify for the finals at the site of the major-league All-Star Game, which this year is at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The event organizer, LEJ Sports of Norcross, Ga., has chosen RiverHawks Stadium to hold the Northern Illinois Sectional Competition on June 3, with registration to begin at 8 a.m. The stadium is located just off Interstate 90 and Riverside Blvd., at 4503 Interstate Blvd. in Loves Park. Winners of the sectional qualify to move on to Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.

The following local leagues will be holding local competitions, the winners of which qualify for sectional competition at RiverHawks Stadium (Belvidere, Dixon, Elburn, Freeport, Hampshire, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Rochelle, Rock Falls/Coloma, Rockford, Rockton, Sandwich, with more to be added).

“We are honored that our new stadium has been selected as the sectional site,” RiverHawks sales director Dan MacDonald said. “Playing on a state-of-the-art, professional field will create lasting memories for our area youth, and we also feel honored to be part of these family memories as well.”

Gerald Gilmore, territory development representative for Pepsi-Cola of Rockford said, “We’re proud of Pepsi’s national sponsorship of MLB’s Pitch, Hit and Run. We’re very pleased to be a part of this year’s competition at RiverHawk Stadium.”
