Baseball cards, fleece blankets, and playoff excitement for final homestand

August 24, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks return home for the final homestand of 2010 with playoff implications. Rockford is currently in fifth place, two games out of the final playoff spot.

All the action begins at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks host the Kansas City T-Bones for a Country themed Miller Lite and 2nd Cousin’s Bar and Grill dollar beer night. Thursday is also human services awareness night. Local health leaders look to educate fans on healthy living.

Friday, is the annual team baseball card set giveaway night and a union member services night, sponsored by The Power Connection. It’s also hockey appreciation night. The Rockford Ice Hogs, Janesville Jets, and members of the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will be in attendance. Former Ice Hog and NHL tough guy Raitis Ivanans will sign autographs for fans. The Jagermeister and Bahama Mama promo-girls will be at the ballpark. It’s the final free gas Friday where random fans will win free gas courtesy of Road Ranger. Once again, fans can enjoy the Friday Fish Fry at concession stands during the game with a special fish and chips basket. Game starts at 7:05 p.m.

Rock Valley College will give away fleece blankets to the first 1,000 fans Saturday. It is Football appreciation night, area youth football teams will be honored during the game and receive special ticket deals. Saturday is also Alzheimer awareness night with Arts in the Park. Roxy Carmichael hosts the final ladies night of 2010. After the game, families can campout in the outfield and enjoy a movie on the scoreboard. Game starts at 6:05 p.m.

Sunday is the last Cost Cutters and MyGofer.com family night. Fans can ride the train for free, courtesy of Illinois Railway Museum and Midwest Rail Junction. Kids can run the bases after the game, and all RiverHawks’ players will be available for autographs. Leaders of groups who attended RiverHawks games will be honored. It is also peanut free night, sponsored by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. The RiverHawks are also hosting basketball appreciation night. Local basketball teams are invited to attend the game and meet former Marquette University standout Roney Eford. Game starts at 4:05 p.m.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season.
