RiverHawks open trip with 7-1 win

June 24, 2010 - WINNIPEG, Man. – Patrick O’Sullivan delivered a two-out, two-run double in the first inning and Travis Scott and Kevin House homered as the Rockford RiverHawks beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 7-1, Thursday at Canwest Park.

The RiverHawks, who opened a two-city, eight-game road trip with the victory, have won eight of their last 11 games.

Winnipeg starter Antony Bello threw 41 pitches in the first inning. House worked the count full and led off the game with a walk. David Cooper blooped a single to shallow left-center field. After Bello struck out two, O’Sullivan hit the 2-2 pitch just inside the bag at third base to drive in two. Bello (1-3) struck out three, but lasted just nine batters and four outs.

Scott hit his first Rockford home run, with a runner aboard, in the third inning. House homered to left field in the sixth inning.

Rockford starter Kyle Wright had a shutout until Vince Harrison’s two-out RBI single in the sixth inning. Wright (3-2) scattered eight hits and struck out three without a walk.

The series continues at 7 p.m. Friday.

The RiverHawks come home to play Schaumburg at 7:05 p.m. Friday, July 2. The Independence Day weekend starts with postgame fireworks, sponsored by Rock Valley College. It’s also the Friday Fish Fry and Free Gas Friday.
