June 23, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Greg Alexander was 4-for-5 with a home run on Tuesday as the Evansville Otters beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 7-4.
Jason James was 3-for-5 with a home run and extended his hitting streak to 21 games, in front of a sellout crowd of 3,366 at Road Ranger Stadium.
Alexander broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning and the Otters led the rest of the way. Ross McCoy put Rockford on the board with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning. McCoy extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Rockford starter Mike Rogers (1-4) walked six and lasted just 2 2/3 innings. He left after Kevin Mackey’s two-out, two-run single in the third extended the Otters’ lead to 4-1.
Rashad Ford (2-2) gave up eight hits, including James’ home run in the third inning, but lasted 5 2/3 innings for the win. Justin Smith pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
The RiverHawks hit the road for their next five games. They open a three-game series at Southern Illinois at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
The RiverHawks come home for a three-game series against Gateway on June 30. They open the homestand with a Two-For Tuesday. Tickets are two for the price of one, and so are hot dogs.
