Road Ranger Stadium to host IHSA super-sectional

May 22, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. –The best of Illinois high school baseball will once again be on display at Road Ranger Stadium.

The Riverhawks’ home ballpark plays host to the Class AA Rockford RiverHawks Super-sectional game at 4:30 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

The winners of the Byron and Chillicothe Sectionals will meet for the Super-sectional title. Regional champions Hampshire, Mendota and Lena are vying for the Byron Sectional, while Farmington, Bloomington Central Catholic, Chillicothe and Sherrard will battle for the second berth in the Super-sectional.

The winner advances on to the state finals May 30-31 at Silver Cross Field in Joliet and faces the winner of the Carbondale Super-Sectional.

This is the second straight year Road Ranger Stadium is hosting a Super-sectional contest. Last year, Elgin Westminster Christian topped Lena 5-3 to earn a berth in the Class A state finals.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer.
