July 28, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks got one of the most memorable pitching performances in team history, then nearly set a new standard for offensive potency, all in one day.

With Garrett Bauer pitching without rest on Saturday, the RiverHawks beat Slippery Rock, 4-0, in the completion of Friday’s suspended game. In the scheduled game, Rockford beat the Sliders, 17-3, with three home runs.

Bauer had a 1-0 lead on Will Henderson’s second-inning home run when play was halted because of rain in the fourth inning on Friday. Bauer came back out for Saturday’s continuation and threw more than 50 pitches. Bauer (4-3) pitched into the eighth and combined with Jason Baca on a four-hit shutout. Baca got the last four outs and earned his second save.

Zac Cline (5-4), who pitched three innings on Friday, took the loss.

In the scheduled game, Slippery Rock starter Derek Griffith lasted just six batters. All reached and the first five scored. Griffith (2-4) gave up only one hit, a three-run homer to Ryan McArdle that gave Rockford a 5-0 lead, but got to that point thanks to two hit batters, two walks, two steals, an error and a wild pitch.

Roberto Valiente homered in the second inning and Henderson hit a 400-foot grand slam to left field in the fourth inning for the RiverHawks. Rockford batted around in the first, third and fourth innings.

The RiverHawks finished one short of the team record for highest score, set in an 18-7 victory on May 29, 2005 at Mid-Missouri.

Jon Dandridge homered twice for the Sliders and drove in all three of their runs.

Bobby Mack (1-2) pitched the final three innings and won for the first time in two years.

The RiverHawks go for a sweep of the three-game series at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. On Feldco/B-103 Family Night, kids get to run the bases after the game. The $40 Family Four Pack is also available.
