August 28, 2006 - EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Rockford RiverHawks managed a real offensive threat in one inning on Monday, and in the end, that was not enough against the Evansville Otters.
The RiverHawks overcame a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the ninth inning against Otters closer Mike Bille. Brad Dutton hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly for the first run, then David Keesee hit a two-out, bases-loaded single scoring one run, but Bo Flowers was thrown out at the plate trying to score the winning run.
It stayed 2-2 going into the bottom of the 11th inning. A double and two intentional walks from RiverHawks reliever Jason James (1-2), who began the game as the designated hitter, loaded the bases with two outs. Grant Rembert ended the game with a single to left field.
The RiverHawks were completely stymied by Evansville starter Jake Haggerty. The true rookie struck out a career-high nine while not giving up a run over seven innings. The RiverHawks managed just four hits off Haggerty.
Rockford starter Garrett Bauer was solid as well, giving up just two runs on a home run by Adam Heffron in the fourth inning in six innings of work.
Donny Landgon (3-2) pitched the final two innings for Evansville without giving up a hit.
Rockford will try to avoid the sweep Tuesday in Evansville. They're in action at 7:05 before returning to Loves Park for a three-game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts. A win Tuesday will reduce Rockford's magic number to one to win the Frontier League West Division.
