February 14, 2006 - ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will host a historic exhibition game this spring.
The RiverHawks of the Frontier League will play the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League in a spring-training game scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14 at RiverHawks Stadium. The meeting, the first competition at the RiverHawks’ brand-new stadium, will also be the first interleague game, exhibition or otherwise, in team history.
The Joliet roster includes one of the most notable names in RiverHawks history – first baseman Jayson Drobiak. Drobiak, who hit 11 home runs in barely a half-season with the RiverHawks, was the first player in team history to be picked up by a major-league organization. The New York Yankees signed him the night he hit two homers in Kalamazoo, in his final appearance as a RiverHawk.
The historic event will be open only to the media and to fans who purchase full-season ticket plans. Individual tickets for this game will not be made available to the general public. Season tickets are available beginning at $456. Call the team box office at (815) 964-BALL for details.
The regular season begins on the road May 24, when the RiverHawks open with a six-game road trip to Windy City and River City.
Opening Day at RiverHawks Stadium is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, when the ‘Hawks host the Evansville Otters. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 14th season in 2006. Advertising, season-ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 964-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
