August 22, 2010 - GARY, Ind. – Rockford pitcher Scott Roehl closed the RiverHawks’ 5-3 win Sunday at Gary with his team-record 16th save.

Roehl struck out one in a perfect inning of work to break Josh Latimer’s six-year-old record of 15. The Rockford bullpen combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

The RiverHawks took two of three from the third-place RailCats and are a half-game behind fifth-place Winnipeg, their next opponent.

Rockford never trailed. Former major-leaguer Victor Diaz broke a 2-2 tie with a third-inning RBI single and the RiverHawks led the rest of the way. Jake Eigsti and John Wagle added insurance runs with a pair of sacrifice flies.

Rockford starter Mike Wood (3-6) gave up three runs on nine hits and pitched into the sixth for the win. Wood left the mound after three straight RailCats reached base with two outs to bring in a run. Jimmy Johnson walked a batter to load the bases, but got out of the inning without further damage. Brett Durand made his second relief appearance of the year and pitched two scoreless innings to set up Roehl.

Gary starter Nolan Nicholson (5-4) gave up seven hits in five-plus innings and took the loss.

The RiverHawks open a three-game series in Winnipeg at 7:05 p.m. Monday.

The RiverHawks are home at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 for Miller Lite/2nd Cousin’s Dollar Beer Night, when they play Kansas City.
