July 15, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Ryan Basham bashed it, and he wasn’t alone.

The Frontier League East Division hit three home runs on Wednesday in a 5-2 victory over the West in the All-Star Game at Road Ranger Stadium, home of the Rockford RiverHawks. Basham, a Florence Freedom outfielder, broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning homer and was voted All-Star Most Valuable Player.

It was also a big night for the Washington Wild Things. Grant Psomas, who won Tuesday’s Home Run Derby, homered a pitch after Basham hit his. Teammate Jacob Dempsey hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and reliever Nick Peterson earned the win in relief.

Rockford’s Jason James, on a league-record 38-game hitting streak at the break, walked and struck out in his two plate appearances. All three RiverHawks pitchers appeared in the game. Tanner Watson gave up Basham’s home run to center field and Psomas’ to left and took the loss. Kyle Wright, the league’s strikeout leader, gave up one hit in a scoreless second inning. Rockford closer John Muller pitched two-thirds of an inning and didn’t give up a run.

The East Division took a 5-0 lead on the trio of home runs. The West Division broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh on two-out RBI singles by River City’s Ryan Wehrle and Gateway’s Charlie Lisk.

Traverse City closer Jeff Williams struck out two and pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.
