RiverHawks edge Traverse City, 6-4

May 27, 2007 - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – After a rainout on Saturday, Rockford escaped late drama en route to its second straight victory Sunday night in Traverse City.

The RiverHawks jumped on the board first as Joe Anthonson drove the first pitch of the game for a double. He would later score on an RBI single from Joey Huskins .

The lead would not last long as the Beach Bums knotted the score in the bottom of the second. Jeff Vincent scored on a throwing error by RiverHawks catcher Matt Hagen . It would be the only run allowed by Rockfrd starter Shaun Parker (1-0), who picked up his first win of the season after completing five innings with five strikeouts.

The RiverHawks broke the tie in the third, scoring a pair of runs off Traverse City starter Buddy Klovstad (0-1). Jason James lifted a RBI sacrifice-fly and Matt Hagen capped the scoring with a RBI single. Klovstad ended up pitching seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

A two-run RBI double from Will Henderson in the ninth, capped a Rockford three-run frame, giving the RiverHawks a 6-1 lead.

They needed all of it. Traverse City rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring one run off relief pitchers Bobby Mack and adding a second off Mike Marksbury . The RiverHawks closer, pitching in a non-save situation, struck out the final two Beach Bums hitters, securing the RiverHawks first road victory of the season.

Both teams will meet again Monday night in Traverse City. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with the Miller Lite pregame show starting at 5:50 p.m. on WNTA (1330 AM).
