RiverHawks lose, 9-4

08/09/2012 11:09 AM - MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners rallied from an early deficit to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 9-4, on Thursday at Rent One Park.

The Miners came back from a 2-0 deficit with a four-run first inning. Cory Harrilchak and Gerardo Avila hit home runs and Jake Kaase doubled in two with two outs. Avila singled in two more runs in the second inning. The Miners opened the third inning with two runs off five straight singles to knock out Rockford starter Cody Hallahan.

Hallahan (5-6) gave up eight runs on 12 hits in his shortest outing of the year. He lost for the first time in his last seven starts and five decisions.

Southern Illinois starter Cody Hall (7-0) gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits over six innings for the win. The Miners have each of the rookie’s 11 starts.

In the seventh inning, Evan Button hit his eighth home run of the year. Button homered off Southern Illinois pitching each of the last two nights.

The RiverHawks have lost 13 of their last 19 games.

The RiverHawks open a three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Joliet.

The RiverHawks’ next home game is at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, when they host Florence. Kids eat free on Tuesday nights with paid admission.
