Scott fans' choice as MVP
« Back

December 14, 2010 - Catcher Travis Scott is the fans' choice as the RiverHawks' Most Valuable Player, according to results of an online poll.

In highly split voting, Scott edged Northern League All-Star Jason James and 10-game winner Kyle Wright for the honor.

Scott hit .302, though he didn't have enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting crown, with five home runs and 29 RBI. He threw out 34 percent of attempted basestealers, tops in the Northern League. Scott signed with the Los Angeles Angels last month, then was taken by Pittsburgh last week in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft.

Scott totaled 23 percent (64 votes) of 276 total votes cast. James, despite a career-worst .283 average, hit 10 home runs with a team-high 57 RBI. He drew 21 percent (57 votes). Fifty fans (18 percent) voted for Wright.

Shortstop Jono Brooks (47 votes) came in fourth, at 17 percent and first baseman/outfielder Rich Austin (25) was fifth, at nine percent. Despite a team-record 18 saves, closer Scott Roehl received just six votes.
