Starting pitchers named for All-Star Game

July 9, 2009 - Former Rockford RiverHawk John Brownell will match up with Ryan Bird in next week's Frontier League All-Star Game.

The starting pitchers were named Thursday by each manager. Kalamazoo manager Fran Riordan, who will manage the East All-Stars, will go with Brownell, the Kings' ace. Brownell is 6-1 with a 3.65 ERA.

West Division manager Chad Parker of River City will go with Bird, Southern Illinois' ace. Bird is 6-1 with a league-best 1.56 ERA. He has struck out 56 and walked just nine.
