WBC poll takes interesting split

March 24, 2009 - The World Baseball Classic poll on the site came to an interesting conclusion. Just two countries combined to take more than 90 percent of the vote. However, neither reached the WBC final.

The United States narrowly edged the Netherlands among the 380 voters. Forty-seven percent (180 votes) picked the U.S. Forty-four percent (168) went Dutch.

On Monday, Japan beat South Korea, 5-3, in 10 innings for its second straight WBC title. It came as a surprise to most voters. Japan was a distant third in the voting, with just 15 total votes (4 percent). Korea received only one vote.
