'Hawk-killer Hawke signs with Marlins

December 23, 2008 - Frontier League Most Valuable Player and RiverHawks nemesis Phil Hawke won't torment Rockford pitching in 2009. The Windy City first baseman has been signed by the Florida Marlins.

Hawke, who has been on the ThunderBolts' pennant winners each of the last two seasons, may reunite with former T-Bolts skipper Andy Haines, who is a coach in the Florida organization. Hawke hit .309 with 22 home runs and 73 RBI last season. He hit .392 with four homers and 17 RBI in 12 games against the RiverHawks.
