Marksbury retirement biggest surprise of the year
« Back

July 8, 2008 - The early season retirement of closer Mike Marksbury is the biggest surprise of the year, according to voters in the most recent online poll.

Nearly 46 percent of voters (176 of 384) say the depature of Marksbury, the team's all-time saves leader, is the most surprising development.

Twenty-eight percent (108) voted for Joe Anthonsen's first half. The third-year RiverHawk is the team's top hitter and was its top RBI man for the first month of the season. He is headed to the Frontier League All-Star Game.

Seven percent voted for outfielder Jason James's presence in the starting rotation and five percent voted for three consecutive one-run losses in May at River City.
