Ellison to play in Atlantic League

April 16, 2008 - Former RiverHawk Derrick Ellison has signed with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League. Ellison was cut from the Chicago Cubs' minor-league camp late in spring training.

For the past two seasons Eliison, 29, pitched for the Joliet Jackhammers of the independent Northern League. In 2007, Ellison finished the season 5-2 and struck out a career-high 59 batters in 53 2/3 innings. He spent 2004 and part of 2005 with the RiverHawks.
