Former Rascal reaches majors
« Back

July 26, 2007 - Former River City Rascal Joe Thatcher is in the major leagues. The San Diego Padres acquired Thatcher, a left-handed pitcher, along with two other minor-leaguers, when they traded pitcher Scott Linebrink to Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Thatcher, a situational lefty with the Rascals in 2004-05, was signed by the Brewers during the 2005 season. Thatcher was with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds of the Pacific Coast League when the Brewers dealt him. He was 2-1 with a save and a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings.
Thatcher is the 14th Frontier League alum to reach the major leagues. Brendan Donnelly, with Anaheim in 2002, and Josh Kinney, with St. Louis in 2006, have played for World Series winners.
