March 21, 2007 - Former Kalamazoo King Pete Pirman will play in the independent American Association this year.

Pirman, the 2005 Frontier League Player of the Year, signed Tuesday with the Sioux City Explorers. Pirman had reached the FL's age limit of 27. His rights had been acquired by Schaumburg of the Northern League this winter, then dealt to Sioux City on Monday.

In another deal involving the AA, St. Joe sent catcher Johnny Coit to the River City Rascals to complete an earlier trade. On Jan. 31, the Rascals had traded longtime FL masher Mike Madrid for a player to be named later.

Gateway was involved in a multiplayer, interleague deal. The Grizzlies traded pitcher Ryan Rafferty to Atlantic City of the Can-Am League for pitcher B.J. Richmond, catcher Chris Crescenzi and a player to be named later.
