Two RiverHawks retire; another released
« Back

April 11, 2006 - Three members of the 2005 RiverHawks won't be back for spring training next month.

The RiverHawks announced the retirement of second baseman Shaff Elkouri and outfielder Ashley Farr. The team also released pitcher Luke Lambo.

Elkouri spent portions of three seasons, including the 2004 championship year, with the RiverHawks. He missed the playoff run because of a thumb injury. Last season, he suffered injuries to both ankles. A July 22 collision with former teammate Doug Schutt on a play at second base ended Elkouri's season and prompted surgery on ligaments in his right ankle. He was hitting .319 at the time.

Elkouri, who spent his entire pro career with the RiverHawks, had a .297 lifetime average.

Farr, acquired from Mid-Missouri early in what turned out to be his only professional season, hit a combined .293 with a home run and 38 RBI.

Lambo was 1-3 with a save and a 5.06 earned-run average.
