RiverHawks sign three pitchers, catchers

May 2, 2011 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks have added six more players to their roster.

Rockford’s only professional baseball team announced Monday it has signed catchers Lee Rubin, Kent Wright and Keenan Long, as well as righthanded pitchers Scott Reid, Trey Watt and Tyler Hyde.

Rubin played in the Frontier League last season, splitting time between the Kalamazoo Kings and Oakland County Cruisers. He batted .277 in 68 games, with four home runs and 21 RBI. Rubin is entering his fifth professional season.

Wright and Long are each entering their second pro season. Wright played in Kalamazoo last year, as well as the Amarillo Dillas of the independent United League and the Wichita Wingnuts of the independent American Association. He hit .263 and drove in two runs in 14 games.

Long played 13 games for the St. George RoadRunners of the independent Golden League last season, batting .361 with five RBI.

Reid spent the last two years with Kalamazoo, compiling a 6-1 record and earning eight saves in 74 relief appearances. He holds a 3.24 career ERA, and has struck out 69 batters in 94 1/3 innings. This will be Reid’s third professional season.

Hyde was also in Kalamazoo last year, where he went 2-0 with a 6.89 ERA in nine games out of the bullpen. Prior to 2010, Hyde was a four-year player at Middle Tennessee State University. He finished his collegiate career with a 1-5 record and 7.66 ERA in 54 games and two starts.

Watt comes to the RiverHawks after spending 2010 in the Arizona Diamondbacks system with the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League. There he went 0-2 with a 7.17 ERA in 19 relief appearances. Like Hyde, this is Watt’s second pro season.
