September 15, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rockford RiverHawks starting pitcher Kyle Wright was the Northern League’s Pitcher of the Week.
Wright was 2-0, with a 1.00 ERA in two starts for the week of August 30 to September 6. Both of his starts were complete games; he struck out 11 and allowed only one walk.
Wright threw a four-hit complete game shutout of the Winnipeg Goldeyes on August 31. He allowed only one hit after the second inning, and recorded two streaks of 11 consecutive batters retired. Wright faced just 29 batters, two over the minimum, and threw 76 of 98 pitches for strikes.
In his final start of the year, September 5 at Lake County, Wright allowed two runs on nine hits over nine innings in Rockford’s 8-2 win. The complete game was the 10th of Wright’s RiverHawks career; he passed Jason Shelley to become the team’s all-time complete games leader.
Wright finished the 2010 season with a 10-3 record and ranked sixth in the Northern League in ERA (3.41) and tied for second in complete games (3). Over his last 11 starts of the year, he pitched six or more innings in every outing and yielded more than three runs only twice in that span.
Wright became the first RiverHawk with a pair of 10-win seasons. The former Arizona farmhand is 20-9 in two seasons with the RiverHawks. He joins Tanner Watson (27 wins) and Garrett Bauer (23) on the team’s 20-win list.
Wright is the fifth RiverHawk to be awarded by the league this year. Brett Durand was the Pitcher of the Week for June 13-19, Patrick O’Sullivan was the Player of the Week for June 28-July 4, Jason James was named Player of the Week for July 12-18, and Mike McTamney was the Pitcher of the Week for August 2-8.
