August 28, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Gabriel Martinez gave Road Ranger Stadium regulars a flashback on Saturday.
The Kansas City first baseman hit two home runs off of Rockford pitching for the second night in a row as the T-Bones battered the RiverHawks, 14-4, at Road Ranger Stadium.
Martinez has five homers in five Northern League games. He hit 15 in 69 games this summer with Saltillo of the Mexican League.
Ray Sadler hit his 21st homer and Jim Fasano added his 17th for KC, which clinched a playoff spot with its fifth win in a row. Vic Buttler hit his second homer and Jake Eigsti added his ninth for Rockford, in front of a sellout crowd of 3,876.
The RiverHawks have lost the first three games of the four-game series and have dropped four of their last five.
The T-Bones scored twice in the top of the first – on an error by third baseman Evan McArthur and on a RBI groundout by Rico Washington and left the rest of the night. The T-Bones scored four runs in the seventh inning, three in the eighth and one in the ninth to turn the game into a blowout.
KC starter Ryan Knippschild (10-7) held the RiverHawks to three runs on six hits over six innings for the win. Rockford starter Kyle Ruwe (6-8) gave up six runs, five earned, in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss.
The series finale is at 4:05 p.m. Sunday. It’s Costcutters Kids Day. Following the game, kids can run the bases and fans of all ages can get autographs from RiverHawks players. Train rides on the RiverHawks Express are free, courtesy of the Illinois Railway Museum and Midwest Rail Junction. It’s also Peanut Free Day. All peanuts and peanut products will be removed from the stadium.
