Fargo belts four homers, beats Rockford, 4-3

August 18, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Fargo-Moorhead hit four home runs on Wednesday as the RedHawks beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 4-3, at Road Ranger Stadium.

Nic Jackson hit a pair of home runs, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 3,008. Jeremiah Piepkorn and Carlo Cota also homered. Cota led off the seventh inning with a go-ahead home run, his third of the series, off Rockford starter Brett Durand.

Fargo took four of five from Rockford. The RiverHawks have dropped six of eight since a season-best eight-game win streak ended.

The RiverHawks remain 1½ games behind Joliet for the final Northern League playoff spot. The fourth-place Jackhammers lost, 6-4, at Lake County.

Evan McArthur drove in all three Rockford runs, on a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a two-run homer in the sixth.

Three RedHawks combined to four-hit the RiverHawks and outduel three Rockford pitchers. Reliever Donnie Smith (1-1) struck out four in 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Casey Hoorelbeke pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save. With two outs in the ninth, Vic Buttler walked and stole second base, but Hoorelbeke picked off the runner to end the game.

Durand (7-8) struck out seven in six innings and combined with the bullpen on a six-hitter.

The RiverHawks are off on Thursday and open a two-city, six-night road trip with a 7 p.m. game Friday at Gary. The RiverHawks are home at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26 for Miller Lite/2nd Cousin’s Dollar Beer Night, when they play Kansas City.
