Power and speed give ‘Hawks series win

August 1, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks hit three home runs to defeat first-place Kansas City, 12-8, Sunday at Road Ranger Stadium.

The RiverHawks were 6-of-7 on stolen base attempts, scored at least a run in each of the first five innings and never trailed, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 3,068. Rockford took two of three games from the T-Bones.

Evan McArthur went 2-for-4 with a RBI, and was 8-for-11 in the series.

Travis Scott started the Rockford scoring with a three-run home run to right field with one out in the first, to give Kyle Ruwe a 3-0 lead.

Rockford put up another three-run inning in the third. Kevin House singled with two outs and scored on Jake Eigsti’s single. Jono Brooks brought home Eigsti with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-2.

Eigsti added a home run of his own, a solo home run to left, to increase the Rockford lead to 10-3.

Kansas City began a furious rally in the seventh. Ruwe allowed four straight hits and was unable to record an out. Ruwe (4-6) allowed seven runs on 12 hits to pick up the win. Emary Frederick retired the first two batters he faced before he gave up three hits and the lead shrank to 10-8.

Mike McTamney slammed the door on Kansas City as he struck out the side in the eighth. Rockford added two big insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Scott Roehl finished the T-Bones with two strikeouts in a perfect ninth.

T-Bones first baseman Jim Fasano went 0-for-5 to snap a 21-game hitting streak. Cody McAllister (8-4) received the loss; he allowed seven runs on eight hits in just three innings.

The RiverHawks open a four-game series Monday vs. Schaumburg. The Flyers send Brett Harker (4-7, 5.25) to the mound to face Brett Durand (6-5, 5.18). The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Road Ranger Stadium for The Power Connection corporate buyout. Fans can visit the team website for a printable ticket voucher, courtesy of The Power Connection.
