July 24, 2010 - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Rockford starter Kyle Wright stopped Kansas City ace Andrew Cruse’s winning streak on Saturday as the RiverHawks edged the T-Bones, 5-4.

Wright struck out six without a walk and pitched into the eighth inning to win his third straight decision. Emary Frederick got the last five outs to earn the save in his Rockford debut. Cruse gave up a season-high seven hits and his seven-start winning streak ended.

Evan McArthur set up Jake Eigsti’s go-ahead sacrifice fly with a critical stolen base in the seventh inning and blunted an eighth-inning KC rally with one of two key defensive plays.

Rockford never trailed. In the second inning, Travis Scott led off with a single and Pat O’Sullivan followed with his 12th home run of the year. After the T-Bones picked up a run in the bottom of the inning, the RiverHawks tacked on two more runs in the top of the third. Kevin House and Jason James both tripled to the 409-foot gap in right-center field and Scott singled in James. Scott, the Rockford catcher, was 3-for-4 and threw out two of three attempted base stealers. He threw out Keanon Simon, the league’s top thief, to end the seventh inning.

Kansas City rallied in the third inning on Ray Sadler’s two-run double to right-center and Jim Fasano’s RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

In the top of the seventh, McArthur led off with a single to center off Cruse and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Ian Church. McArthur stole third on the 2-2 pitch to Eigsti. Eigsti flied to center on the next pitch to drive in McArthur.

Cruse (8-3) struck out six and walked one over seven innings, but took his first loss since June 13.

Wright (5-2) gave up eight hits and left after Sadler’s one-out single in the eighth. Frederick entered and Fasano singled to left. House, the left fielder, threw out Sadler at third base. McArthur ended the inning with a diving play on Brian Joynt’s grounder.

With one out in the ninth, Frederick walked two, but James hauled in Simon’s drive to the warning track in right-center and Jake Blackwood struck out to end the game.

The rubber match of the three-game series is at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.

The RiverHawks’ next home game is at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 against Winnipeg. It’s the Big Splash Spectacular and a Two-For Tuesday.
