Blackwood homers twice as 'Hawks fall, 12-2

July 23, 2010 - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City’s Jake Blackwood hit a pair of home runs on Friday as the T-Bones beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 12-2, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Blackwood was 4-for-4 with five RBI for the Northern League-leading T-Bones. The RiverHawks fell 12 games out of the lead and two games behind Winnipeg for the last playoff spot with the loss, combined with the Goldeyes’ 11-3 defeat of Schaumburg.

Blackwood was retired only on a first-inning sacrifice fly, which gave the T-Bones a 1-0 lead. He made it 3-0 with a two-run single in the fourth inning and homered in the fifth and seventh innings. He also singled in the eighth. Ryan Fox added a home run in the sixth inning.

KC starter Ryan Knippschild and two relievers combined on a four-hitter. Knippschild (7-4) matched a season high with eight strikeouts and walked two over seven innings.

Rockford starter Roger Lincoln (4-5) lasted five innings and gave up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in the loss.

Kevin House drove in both Rockford runs on a double to center field in the fifth inning.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. It is not scheduled for broadcast.

The RiverHawks’ next home game is at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 against Winnipeg. It’s the Big Splash Spectacular and a Two-For Tuesday.
