July 5, 2010 - SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Ron Borquin hit a tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning on Monday as the Schaumburg Flyers beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 4-3, at Alexian Field.
Joe Nowicki also homered for the Flyers, who beat the RiverHawks for just the third time in nine meetings this year. Rockford’s Rich Austin was 2-for-2 with two walks and extended his on-base streak to 22 games.
Borquin homered off Rockford starter Kyle Ruwe with two outs in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie. Ruwe (2-5) gave up nine hits, struck out four and walked two in Rockford’s first complete game of the year.
Schaumburg reliever Brian McCullough (2-0) held the RiverHawks to a hit over the final 3 1/3 innings to earn the win.
The series continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The RiverHawks’ next home game won’t be until after the All Star break. They host the Lake County Fielders at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, July 15. The annual Muscular Dystrophy Association jersey auction, featuring Jacksonville Jaguars safety and Byron native Sean Considine, will immediately follow the game. It’s also Miller Lite/2nd Cousin’s Dollar Beer Night. The 2nd annual Guns vs. Hoses charity softball game is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. It’s also Rockford Chamber Night, Byron Community Night and Jimmy Buffet Night.
