Homers propel 'Hawks to victory over Fielders

July 4, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill.Patrick O’Sullivan and Kevin House hit home runs to help the Rockford RiverHawks beat the Lake County Fielders, 6-4, Sunday at Road Ranger Stadium.

Rockford scored first. In the bottom of the first inning, House led off with a single and scored on a single by Rich Austin.

Kyle Wright (4-2) got hit hard in the second inning. The first four batters pounded base hits. Jeff Dunbar hit a three-run home run to give Lake County a 3-1 lead. Wright struck out Kyle Higgins to record the first out of the inning. He allowed just three hits through the remainder of his seven-inning start.

Austin led off the fourth inning with a four-pitch walk, and scored on O’Sullivan’s game-tying two-run home run. Travis Scott doubled on the next pitch and scored on an RBI groundout by Franco Valdes to put Rockford back in front for good, at 4-3.

O’Sullivan added a third RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Jake Eigsti. Eigsti drew a walk to lead off the inning, the second straight inning Lake County starter John Brownell (1-4) walked the leadoff batter. Brownell gave up just four hits, but allowed a season-high five walks and left after he walked the first two batters in the fifth.

In the sixth, House extended the lead to 6-3 with a solo home run off Ryan Falcon.

Scott Roehl struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to record his 10th save.

The RiverHawks travel to Schaumburg for a three-game series vs. the Flyers at 7 p.m. Monday at Alexian Field. The RiverHawks’ next home game won’t be until after the All Star break. They host the Lake County Fielders at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, July 15. The annual Muscular Dystrophy Association jersey auction, featuring Jacksonville Jaguars safety and Byron native Sean Considine, will immediately follow the game. It’s also Miller Lite/2nd Cousin’s Dollar Beer Night. The 2nd annual Guns vs. Hoses charity softball game is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. It’s also Rockford Chamber Night, Byron Community Night and Jimmy Buffet Night.
