RiverHawks acquire catcher, pitcher

June 18, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks have added rookies at pitcher and catcher.

Rockford’s only professional baseball team announced on Friday that it has signed left-handed Chuck Lukanen, a former Northern Illinois University pitcher, and catcher Kirk Williamson. The RiverHawks placed pitcher Greg Stolzenburg on the seven-day DL and released pitcher Adam Rowe.

Lukanen was 5-8 with a 5.10 earned-run average in 15 appearances this spring with the Huskies. He struck out 82 and walked 40 in 97 innings.

Williamson, who played at Aurora University, hit .359 with 10 home runs and 57 RBI this spring for the Spartans. He also stole 11 bases in 12 tries.

Stolzenburg allowed three runs in an inning in his professional debut, Wednesday at Schaumburg. Rowe was 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in 11 appearances.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league in its 18th season.
