RailCats complete sweep, 5-4
« Back

June 10, 2010 - GARY, Ind. – Gary’s Cristian Guerrero switched from the long ball to the infield single to help the RailCats complete a series sweep.

Guerrero drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single in the seventh inning as the RailCats beat the RiverHawks, 5-4, on Thursday to complete a three-game series sweep. Guerrero had homered in five consecutive plate appearances on Wednesday in Gary’s doubleheader sweep at Loves Park.

Gary never trailed on Thursday, but the RiverHawks rallied for a 4-4 tie with three two-out runs in the sixth inning, two on a David Cooper single and one on Kevin House’s single to center field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Gary regained the lead with an unearned run off Rockford starter Brett Durand (3-1). Adam Klein reached on a one-out error at second base by Cooper. Jay Pecci reached on a walk. After a forceout at second moved Klein to third, Guerrero hit a hard shot to third base. Evan McArthur spun on his knee to make the stop, but his throw to first was a hair too late.

The Gary bullpen retired the final 10 batters in order. Zeb Engle (1-0) retired all four batters he faced to win in relief. Andy Shipman pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.

The RiverHawks return home this weekend for a three-game series against Joliet. The series opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday and features Upper Iowa University/Metro Medical “Big Hurt” Bobblehead Doll Night. It’s also the Friday Fish Fry and Road Ranger Free Gas Friday, when random fans will win gas cards.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season this summer.
