« Back

May 21, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Kyle Wright struck out seven batters without a walk on Friday as the Rockford RiverHawks beat the Schaumburg Flyers, 5-2, for their first Northern League win.

Wright threw a strike on 61 of 80 pitches over six innings for the decision, his first win since last Aug. 5. Wright was a 10-game winner and an all-star in 2009, the RiverHawks’ last season in the Frontier League. Wright scattered two runs – both on Brandon Newton’s fourth-inning double – on eight hits.

The RiverHawks fired back in the bottom of the fourth for three runs and the lead. Randall Simon hit a two-run double to left field on an 0-2 pitch and later scored the go-ahead run on Jake Eigsti’s sacrifice fly.

Rockford added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Patrick O’Sullivan doubled home a run and scored on Adam Shorsher’s sacrifice fly.

Scott Roehl, the last of three Rockford relievers, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save.

Schaumburg starter Todd Moser gave up just three hits over six innings, but took the loss.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. It’s ESPN 1380 RiverHawks Magnet Schedule Night. It’s also Roxy Carmichael Ladies Night.
