May 14, 2010 - GARY, Ind. — The Rockford RiverHawks scored in seven different innings and beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 14-1 Friday evening in an exhibition contest at U. S. Steel Yard.

The ‘Hawks pounded out 21 hits against six different RailCats pitchers, scoring on each one except for non-roster left-hander Andrew Weeks, who struck out a pair in a scoreless seventh inning. Weeks, who played collegiately at Wabash College, was discovered by the RailCats at the team’s annual Open Tryout on May 4 and was seeing his first Spring Training action Friday.

The RailCats scored their lone run in the fourth inning when catcher Yuki Matsumoto stroked a two-out double into the right field corner to score Mike Rohde all the way from first. That run made the score 7-1, and Rockford would only pile on from there, doubling their run output before the end of the game.

James was perfect in the game, doubling in the first inning, hitting a three-run home run in the second an following that up with singles in the fourth and fifth before being replaced. The Rockford center fielder finished with five RBI and scored three runs. Eigsti collected singles in each of his first four at bats before being called out on strikes in the eighth.

Matsumoto had the RailCats' only two-hit game, going 2-for-2. The RailCats had only six total hits, with Louis Ott, Cristian Guerrero, Chris Carrara and Rohde each notching singles.

The RailCats exhibition season continues Saturday at 2 p.m. when they rematch with the RiverHawks.
