April 27, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks added infield depth on Tuesday with the signing of a former New York Mets farmhand.

Rockford’s only professional baseball team announced it has signed infielder Jake Eigsti, who played four different New York farm teams last season. The Mets drafted the 25-year-old out of Indiana State in the 29th round in 2006.

Last year, Eigsti hit a composite .235 with a home run and 17 RBI with the Mets Class AA Binghamton, high A St. Lucie, low A Savannah and short-season A Brooklyn clubs. Eigsti, a fifth-year pro, is a career .239 hitter.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season this summer. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and on ESPN1380.com. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
