March 24, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Three unique menu items have been added to the menu at Road Ranger Stadium.
On Wednesday, the Rockford RiverHawks announced that they will serve “The Closer” – an all-appetizer sandwich, “The Meataholic” – an all-meat shish kabob, and “The Codfather” – a cod-based hot dog – at the ballpark this summer.
“We want RiverHawks baseball to be a unique experience every time fans come to the stadium,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “Just like we introduce new giveaways and in-game promotions each year, we make an effort to enhance what we offer our fans at the concessions stands.”
“The Closer” features just about every favorite appetizer, combined into one extraordinary sandwich. Three chicken strips are topped with mozzarella sticks and onion rings. The whole thing is encased in a quesadilla instead of a bun. Customers will have the opportunity to substitute two giant pretzels for the quesadilla.
“We call it ‘The Closer’ because, after eating it, you won’t need to eat anything the rest of the night,” Olerud said.
Carnivores will enjoy dining on “The Meataholic.” This Adkins-friendly item features Italian sausage, bratwurst, Polish sausage and a red-hot frank, all on a skewer.
Fans looking for seafood at a RiverHawks game will have the option of ordering “The Codfather.” The “Big Daddy” of fish dogs features a breaded piece of cod in the shape of a hot dog, served on a bun.
“Order it with fries and it’s the perfect combination of a hot dog – one of the most American of foods – with the British staple of fish and chips,” Olerud said.
The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
