Paranormal Cops to visit RiverHawks June 11

March 10, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – For fans of a sport filled with curses, legends and ghosts, this couldn’t be a better fit.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced on Wednesday that the cast of the A&E Program “Paranormal Cops” will be at Road Ranger Stadium on June 11. Prior to that night’s 7:05 p.m. game against Joliet, Tom Froelich, Ron Fabiani and the rest of the Paranormal Cops will throw out ceremonial first pitches. They will also be available for autographs and photo opportunities.

“‘Paranormal Cops’ is looking forward to hitting the field with the RiverHawks by throwing out the first pitch, signing autographs and meeting all the great people in Rockford,” Froelich said.

Froelich himself has previously visited Rockford’s only professional baseball team as a fan, RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said.

“I’m an avid fan of the show; he’s an avid fan of the RiverHawks,” Olerud said. “We’ll be announcing more details as we get closer to the date.”

According to the A&E website, “Paranormal Cops” follows a group of larger-than-life cops who walk one beat during the day as real-life Chicago-area police officers and another at night when they apply their forensic and investigative expertise to paranormal casework.

Responding to the pleas of people who are victimized by distressing and inexplicable activities in their homes and workplaces, these cops bring their no-nonsense approach to hunting ghosts and real-life police skills to separate the fact from fiction – and often happen upon results much scarier than expected. As they investigate, the team will also uncover the dark underworld of Chicago’s sordid history, which will both inform and enrich their cases as they seek to rid people of the fears that plague them.

Froelich describes himself and his co-stars as “Police by day; paranormal investigators by night.”

The show is more intense than the ghosts of the Black Sox in “Field of Dreams.” On the other hand, Road Ranger Stadium’s location was a cornfield just a few years ago.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and on ESPN1380.com. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
