February 2, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks’ latest roster move has created a family reunion for a power-hitting veteran.

The RiverHawks announced Tuesday that they have picked up first baseman Patrick O’Sullivan from the Ft. Worth Cats of the independent American Association in exchange for a player to be named later. O’Sullivan was born in Oak Lawn and now makes his home in Marietta, Ga. His parents now reside in Rockford.

O’Sullivan, who will be 33 in March, has hit at least 20 home runs in five of his 11 professional seasons. Last year with the Cats, O’Sullivan hit .309 with 14 homers, the fourth-best total in the league, and 65 RBI.

O’Sullivan has affiliated experience with the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles. The Mets drafted O’Sullivan out of Austin Peay State in the 34th round in 1999. In the Baltimore organization, he advanced as far as Class AA.

O’Sullivan reached Triple-A baseball in the Mexican League. In 2004, he hit a career-best 37 homers in a combined 143 games between San Luis Potosi in Mexico and Edinburg in the Central League. O’Sullivan hit at least 21 home runs each year from 2004 to 2008.

The RiverHawks plan on using the right-handed batter in the No. 3 spot in the batting order, with two lefties in front of him and two veteran lefties – 2004 Frontier League Most Valuable Player Rich Austin and former major-leaguer Randall Simon – batting behind him. Each batter in the 3-4-5 combo has hit at least 16 homers in a single season.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
