January 13, 2010 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Wednesday that they have organized a series of youth tournaments, beginning April 11 at Guilford High School, Belvidere High School and Road Ranger Stadium.
Teams are invited to register for the Rockford RiverHawks Round Robin Series, which includes four teams per tournament and three games per team. Tournaments are available for 14,13,12,11 and-under teams.
Cost per team is $350 for games at Road Ranger, $300 at Belvidere and $250 for games at Guilford. The first-place team and players will receive medals. There is no gate fee.
“We created the Round Robin Series so our kids will have a chance to play baseball not only against local opponents but also opponents from outside the area as well,” RiverHawks director of operations Chris Daleo said. “The Riverhawks are providing the fields and the umpires, thus allowing our young players a safe and affordable place to log innings and games.”
Teams have already signed up from Rockford, DeKalb and Romeoville, Daleo said.
Last year all of the tournaments filled up. Teams travelled from as far as Minnesota. Area hotels benefitted from approximately 200 rooms booked by such teams. Between room nights and dollars spent at area restaurants, gas stations and stores, the RiverHawks Round Robin Series pumped tens of thousands of dollars into the local economy last year.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
