December 2, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Folks shopping for Rockford RiverHawks fans can save money and make Christmas better for less-fortunate people and pets on Dec. 12.

The RiverHawks will hold their second annual Christmas sale and donation drive 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the team store at Road Ranger Stadium. Customers can save up to 50 percent on merchandise in the team store. Charities including the Rockford Rescue Mission, the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign and Noah’s Ark animal shelter will benefit from the event.

“Since 2002, the Rockford RiverHawks organization and their fans have donated hundreds of pounds of food and clothing to Rockford Rescue Mission in order to lend a hand to the hungry and homeless in our community,” said Randa Noble, director of development for the Rockford Rescue Mission. “We are extremely grateful for this long time relationship. This year, more than ever, your donations will make a difference in someone's life. This year the Mission has seen the need for our services increase by 20 percent, so we are so appreciative of your continued support.”

Rocko the RiverHawk will be on hand to meet the children. Youngsters will be able to go on the field, weather permitting, to build snowmen. They’ll also be entertained by a toy train display inside the store.

All merchandise will be discounted 25 percent. Customers who reserve season tickets that date and pay a deposit will receive a 10-percent discount for items in the team store. Customers that purchase a mini-season plan and pay a deposit will receive a five-percent discount on merchandise.

In addition, customers who bring five articles of winter clothing, toys, food or pet items will receive an additional five percent discount. The discount increases five percent with each multiple of five items, up to a maximum discount of 50 percent.

“We’re proud to help all of the charities involved,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “I believe our fans will step to the plate and help them out in this season of giving.”

Clothing and food items will be donated to the Rockford Rescue Mission, toys to Toys for Tots and pet supplies to Noah’s Ark.

The RiverHawks are members of the Northern League, an eight-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 18th season in 2010. The RiverHawks’ ninth season begins at 7:05 p.m. May 20 against the Schaumburg Flyers at Road Ranger Stadium. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Games are broadcast live on ESPN 1380 (WTJK-AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
