September 5, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – With his team’s playoff chances on the line, Windy City starter Ross Stout rose to the occasion on Saturday to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 4-2.

Stout (13-5) outdueled Rockford starter Kyle Wright for the victory. Stout allowed two runs on six hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked one.

Windy City, which trailed Southern Illinois by one game for the final wild-card spot, faced possible elimination if it had lost.

The ThunderBolts took the lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from J.T. Restko that broke a 1-1 tie. Kraig Binick singled in another run to extend the lead to 3-1. Dan Jordan provided insurance with a solo home run in the seventh.

After an RBI infield single from Jason James in the eighth inning, the RiverHawks tried to mount a ninth-inning rally. They loaded the bases with one out but Jono Brooks and Caleb Fields each bounced into force plays to end the game.

Wright (10-6) took his fifth loss in as many decisions. He lasted seven innings but allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five.

Nick Hall pitched two-thirds of an inning for his 11th save.

The season concludes at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. It is Rockford’s final game as a member of the Frontier League. The RiverHawks will join the independent Northern League for the 2010 season.

Sunday is Fan Appreciation Night, sponsored by the Chicago Rockford International Airport, which includes a postgame fireworks show. It is also Family Night, when players will sign autographs and kids can run the bases following the game. Q98.5, Capture Photography, Dr Pepper and Metro Medical sponsor the activities.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 17th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
