RiverHawks rally for 5-1 win

July 20, 2009 - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Brett Durand scattered three hits over eight innings and the Rockford bats rallied in the late innings as the RiverHawks won, 5-1, on Monday at Traverse City.

The RiverHawks scored twice in the seventh inning and added three runs in the ninth. It was just the third time this season they have won when trailing after six innings.

Rockford has won all four meetings with the Beach Bums this season and has held Traverse City to a total of seven runs.

Durand (6-3) struck out five and walked two. Traverse City scored its lone run on Brendan McArthur’s RBI single in the fifth inning.

Rockford took a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning. Jason James led off with a double to left field. Brandon Cohen tied the game with his first career triple, a liner to right-center, and scored the go-ahead run on Ross McCoy’s RBI single off starter Brett Bostelman (5-3).

The RiverHawks added three runs in the ninth inning on Doug Sanders’ bases-loaded double.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. CDT Tuesday. The RiverHawks come for a three-game series against Southern Illinois beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night.
