June 9, 2009 - ROCKFORD, Ill. – Faith Night turned out to be singles night at Road Ranger Stadium.

The Rockford RiverHawks banged out a season-high 20 hits – 14 of them singles – on Tuesday and beat Windy City, 15-2. Rockford batters hit seven consecutive singles during a five-run fourth inning.

Leadoff man Mike Goetz had four hits and Jason James had two to tie the RiverHawks’ all-time record. Robbie Knapp and Caleb Fields each hit home runs in the victory.

Rockford starter Kyle Wright pitched a three-hitter and earned the first complete-game win by a RiverHawk in nearly a year.

Rockford never trailed. Ross McCoy, the only RiverHawk without a hit, broke a scoreless tie with a first-inning RBI groundout. Ben Blumenthal made it 2-0 with a second-inning sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, Rockford sent 10 to the plate. Doug Sanders’ two-run single drove Windy City starter Tyler Kelsey (2-1) from the mound. James followed with a RBI single, his 311th career hit. James, who signed with the RiverHawks in July 2006, tied Ben Fjelland’s team record.

Knapp hit his fourth home run, a three-run shot to left field, in the sixth inning. Fields hit a three-run homer to left, his first of the year, in the eighth.

Windy City’s Bryan Cook hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year, to the 2nd Cousin’s Beer Garden in right field with two outs in the ninth.

Wright (2-1) allowed only one earned run. He struck out six, walked two and recorded 14 groundball outs. He pitched Rockford’s first complete game victory since Jim Paduch beat Gateway on July 18, 2008.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. On Family Value Night, families can get four outfield box tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for $40. Penny Mae Dixon, a Taste of Rockford performer, will sing during a postgame concert.
