May 30, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks lost 11-10 to the Lake Erie Crushers on Saturday in a game filled with home runs and defensive miscues. Rockford fell to a record of 2-7, which extended their losing streak to six games.

The game was decided by the Crushers’ six-run seventh inning. Arden McWilliams broke a tie game with a three-run home run to right field.

The game featured four home runs to right field, aided by a steady wind to right field. Twice a three-run blast from a RiverHawk batter brought Rockford within one run, once by Doug Sanders in the third inning and once by Ross McCoy in the seventh inning. Sanders finished 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs.

Mistakes plagued the RiverHawks throughout the night. In the top of the third, two walks, two hit batsmen, two errors, and a passed ball helped the Lake Erie Crushers open up a 4-0 lead. The ‘Hawks committed two more errors in the later innings for a total of four.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Nick Tisone (2-0) earned the win for the Crushers. Marcus McKenzie (0-1) suffered the loss for Rockford. Lake Erie closer Brian Chambers was credited with his first save.

Rockford and Lake Erie will do battle tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. for the final game of the season’s first homestand. The starting pair is a right-handed matchup between Brent Lysander (0-0, 7.50) for the Crushers and Jay Monti (1-1, 7.36) for the RiverHawks.

Tomorrow night’s game is Family Night. The first 1,000 fans will receive a RiverHawks rally towel, sponsored by 2nd Cousin’s Bar and Grill and Rockford’s Q98.5. In addition, kids can run the bases after the game, and RiverHawk players will be on hand to sign autographs.
