Area prep teams coming to Road Ranger Stadium

March 25, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Area high-school baseball teams will have the chance to play on the same field as professionals will this year. At the same time, they’ll raise needed funds for their programs.

The RiverHawks announced Wednesday that they have scheduled 10 dates, involving most of the Stateline’s prep teams, at Road Ranger Stadium.

The first date is a doubleheader between Dixon and Neuman scheduled for 6 p.m. April 18. Marengo, Pearl City, Rochelle, Harlem, Kirkland, Ashton-Franklin Grove Consolidated, Christian Life, Rockford Lutheran, Belvidere, Belvidere North, Sycamore, Guilford and Stillman Valley have also scheduled games.

“We are giving back to the community and the players are giving back to their school and program, earning every cent,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “The game is a celebration of achievement that will showcase high-school bands, school presidents, booster clubs, and alumni. To date, the RiverHawks have helped area high schools raise over $35,000, we are very pleased with the efforts of the kids involved in this first-year program.”

Each school’s baseball team raises money to cover costs by selling tickets to a RiverHawks game and pocketing 50 percent of the face value of the ticket. In many cases, the result is a surplus for those teams to invest in gear or improvements at their campus field.

“Not only does it give us a chance to make a little bit of money for our players and our programs – we use than money to get some extra equipment to get some bats, to get some guys some baseball apparel – but it also gives guys an opportunity to play on a professional field,” said Rochelle High School coach Sam Knaack, who is also a member of the RiverHawks’ coaching staff.

The Hubs have played at Road Ranger Stadium each of the last two seasons.

“They certainly enjoyed playing on a professional surface,” Knaack said.

Coaches interested in scheduling a game at Road Ranger Stadium should contact RiverHawks director of operations Chris Daleo at (815) 885-2255. For a full schedule of prep games at the stadium, visit http://rockfordriverhawks.com/stadiumevents/.
