March 4, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Road Ranger Stadium will continue as the host of the Northern Athletics Conference baseball tournament through at least 2010.

Wednesday, the Rockford RiverHawks and the NCAA Division III conference agreed to a two-year contract to host the two-day tournament at the stadium. The RiverHawks’ three-year-old park has been the NAC tournament’s only home. This year’s tournament is scheduled for May 8-9.

Rockford College has won each of the first two NAC tournament titles, but was not awarded an at-large NCAA regional berth. This season, the league’s third, the NAC champion qualifies for an automatic bid.

Four teams qualify for the double-elimination tournament. Edgewood College, based in Madison, is the official host institution.

The tournament is just one of dozens of events that will be held at the stadium in addition to the RiverHawks’ 48-game home schedule.

“We have booked an additional 300 games at Road Ranger stadium,” said Chris Daleo, the team’s director of operations. “Hosting the NAC tournament allows us to showcase not our our great stadium but all of Rockford as well.”

The NAC consists of 13 colleges and universities from Illinois and Wisconsin. Charter members include: Alverno College, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University Wisconsin, Dominican University, Edgewood, Lakeland College, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Marian University, Rockford and Wisconsin Lutheran College. Milwaukee School of Engineering joined the NAC in the fall of 2007.

Edgewood has launched an official tournament information page at http://www.edgewoodcollegeeagles.com/sports/2009/3/4/BB_0304092807.aspx.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255.
