January 28, 2009 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – ESPN 1380 is the new radio home of the Rockford RiverHawks.

The RiverHawks announced Wednesday that WTJK (1380 AM) will carry their games this season. At least 80 regular-season games and the Frontier League All-Star Game will be broadcast live on the radio and online on ESPN1380.com.

“We look forward to partnering with ESPN Radio 1380, the Stateline’s sports leader,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud. “It’s a natural fit for the RiverHawks and we are anticipating a great response from our fans.”

WTJK, based in Janesville, Wisc. is ESPN radio’s local affiliate. It’s local broadcast reach includes Winnebago and Boone counties in Illinois and Rock County in Wisconsin, along with portions of Ogle, DeKalb, Stephenson and McHenry counties.

“ESPN Radio 1380 is proud to enter into a partnership with the Rockford RiverHawks,” WTJK general manager Laurie Clark said. “This opportunity will further our stance as the Stateline’s sports leader and radio destination for local sports. We are looking forward to becoming a part of the Rockford RiverHawk family.”

The RiverHawks have been a longtime staple of the “Spanning the Stateline” segment on “Jock Talk”, the station’s afternoon-drive program.

The RiverHawks had broadcast most of their games the last two seasons on WNTA (1330 AM).

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti.
