'Hawks offer fundraising opportunities to teams

December 11, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Amateur baseball teams have the opportunity to play on a professional field for little to no cost.

The Rockford RiverHawks offer fundraising opportunities for regional ballclubs. By selling tickets for RiverHawks games on consignment, area high-school teams have the opportunity to fund their own games at Road Ranger Stadium from March to October. Amateur teams of all ages can raise money for their programs through the same method.

Many area teams have utilized the program. Some have not only paid for stadium rental, but have generated extra revenue to benefit their program.

“The players enjoy playing in an atmosphere that a professional baseball stadium provides and raising some money for their team to have additional equipment or perks during the season,” said Rochelle High School coach Sam Knaack, whose Hubs played at Road Ranger Stadium last season. Knaack is also a member of the RiverHawks coaching staff.

High-school teams can pay their way onto the field by selling 300 tickets. Any amateur team that sells a minimum of 150 tickets can generate additional fundraising through soliciting donations at the front gate and receiving half the winnings of the 50-50 pot on their night at the stadium.

Each team sells the tickets for face value, $10 or $12, and keeps a percentage of the revenue generated by its consignment sales. The percentage varies with the face value of the tickets. There is no down payment required, but teams need to return all unsold tickets and the money from tickets sold one week before the day of the game.

Teams receive block seating on their night at a RiverHawks game. Hospitality features for fundraising teams include a pregame check presentation, a pregame team introduction, acknowledgment on the video scoreboard and public-address system and an opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Group organizers receive four complimentary tickets to a future RiverHawks home game.
