RiverHawks sign veteran pitcher

December 4, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Thursday that they have signed veteran pitcher Mike Rogers.

The right-hander is a former Oakland farmhand. The A’s took Rogers in the second round of the 2004 draft and he spent four years in the organization. Rogers peaked at Class AA Midland. He recorded a strikeout-to-walk ratio of roughly 2-to-1.

Rogers was 0-4 with a 8.92 earned-run average in nine appearances with Sussex of the independent Can-Am League last season.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season in 2009. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
