RiverHawks trade for outfielder

November 6, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Thursday that they have traded for outfielder Ross McCoy.

The RiverHawks acquired McCoy, 24, from Reno of the independent Golden League in a trade for a player to be named later. McCoy was a three-time all-Horizon League second team selection while with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

McCoy has played two seasons of professional baseball and has 1-Year status in the Frontier League. He hit .260 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI and stole 12 bases in 15 tries last season with the Silver Sox. In 2007, McCoy hit .302 with a homer and 12 RBI for Lincoln of the independent American Association.

McCoy, who played 2004-07 for UWM, was a .299 career hitter in college. He finished his career as the Panthers’ all-time leader in games (210), at-bats (737) and doubles (58).

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season in 2009. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season at 7:05 p.m. May 21 at Windy City and host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
